Officers of the Parent Group for the 2008-09 school year will be elected at
the May 22 parent meeting. All parents of Band and Guard students are
automatically voting members in the Parent Group with a say in who fills
these officer positions. Plan to attend the May parent meeting to cast
your votes for officers and approval of the budget for next year.
All parents are also eligible to fill any of the officer or
committee chair positions. We are looking for some volunteers to step
up for some key roles:
Treasurer - the current office holder is completing the last
year of the 2-year term allowed under the bylaws;
Uniform Committee Chair - this year's chair is stepping down
at the end of the year.
Below are brief job descriptions for each of the officer, and open committee
chair positions for 2008-09. If you are able to take on one of these important jobs,
contact any of the current officers.
PRESIDENT - Responsible for overall guidance and leadership of the Parent
Group; conducts monthly Parent meetings; oversees communications about band
and Parent Group activities to parents; leads by example through
volunteering at major band events such as garage sale, marching
competitions, Winter Classic, etc.
VICE-PRESIDENT - Assists President in leadership and assists with all major
events.
SECRETARY - Records minutes of monthly Parent Group meetings; assist with
maintaining Parent Group mail and e-mail lists.
TREASURER - Manages collection of participant fees and expenditures; manages
Parent Group checking account; maintains accounting records of all Parent
Group income and expenses; provides monthly report of financial status to
Parent Group meetings.
UNIFORM CHAIR - Manages distribution and return of marching uniforms to
students for each marching event - football game, competition, parade;
measuring and fitting of students for uniforms during summer band camp;
responsible for recruiting a team of other parents to assist with above
tasks. WE NEED TO IDENTIFY SOMEONE VERY SOON who is willing to fill
this important job for the 2008-09 school year, so that the current chair
can provide training before the end of this year.
FOOD CHAIR - Responsible for planning, preparing, and serving warm,
nutritious meals to the marching band at competitions. Serve a hot
meal to 130 people in a stadium parking lot with no electricity or running
water. It's a very intense burst of work, but only for 3-4 weekends
per each fall. The current Food Chair, Wendy Simmons, will continue
through next year, but we'd really like to identify a freshman or sophomore
parent who can train with Wendy next fall and be ready to take over in the
2009-10 school year.
